RYA Competent Crew
Duration: 5 days
This course is for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers.
We run our RYA Day Skipper Course course over 5 days. You will meet your yacht and your instructor on the first day of your course at 0930. It may be possible to arrive to the course and stay overnight on the yacht a day before the course commences at the additional fee of 25 Euro, please contact the school for details.The course will take place around Portimão area, you will be living on board and fully experience life on a yacht, including sailing at night. All our practical courses are hands on. Basically you are the crew, without you the boat will not sail.
Before you set sail, your instructor will guide you through the safety procedures to make you comfortable aboard and familiar with equipment and hazards. The instructor will show you all the basics and will be there to support you at every stage. We can assure you that by the end of thefive-day course, you will not only understand how a sailing yacht works, but also try steering the boat, handle rope work, sail a basic course, be aware of safety on board and a little of navigation. You may find you are a natural sailor and ready for the next step or maybe go and a buy a boat!
Holders of the RYA Competent Crew certificate can go on to crew on cruising yachts or racing yachts. The emphasis is on fun and enjoyment and we are sure.
